Filmmaker Sohrab Mirmont Speaks at UCLA Masterclass, Discussing Producing Experience on Cannes Debut "Riddle of Fire"



Los Angeles, CA — October 22, 2024 — Iranian-American filmmaker Sohrab Mirmont recently delivered a masterclass at UCLA Film School, led by esteemed instructor Pietro Pinto, on April 18, 2024. Mirmont shared his insights and experiences as the lead producer of Riddle of Fire, a feature film that premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in the Directors' Fortnight section.


Mirmont, known for his distinct blend of narrative innovation and cinematic vision, discussed the intricacies of producing a high-caliber film, from development to post-production, and navigating the complexities of the festival circuit. His talk included insights into collaborating with filmmakers, handling creative challenges, and ensuring a project’s vision remains intact throughout the filmmaking process.


Riddle of Fire marked a new milestone in Mirmont's career, continuing the legacy of

his uncle, the renowned filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, while carving out his own path in the international film scene. The film, which debuted to acclaim at Cannes, is a modern-day adventure that echoes the charm and wonder of childhood through a fantastical lens.


About Sohrab Mirmont:


Sohrab Mirmont is an Iranian-American filmmaker and a graduate of Full Sail University, where he earned his degree in Film and Television Production. He first gained recognition with his debut short film, *The Beautiful Wind*, which won the Audience Choice Award at the 2005 New York International Film Festival. His feature thriller, *The Freemason*, starring Sean Astin, garnered him Best Director and Best Film honors at the Comic Con Film Festival.


Mirmont has also worked on two acclaimed documentaries for the BBC, collectively amassing nearly a billion views, further establishing his broad appeal and versatility as a filmmaker. In addition to his individual achievements, Mirmont's close connection to his late uncle, Abbas Kiarostami, serves as a guiding inspiration for his career. Kiarostami once expressed, "I am very proud of him. I am very much enjoying another family member's success in the filmmaking industry."



Mirmont's latest work, *Riddle of Fire*, solidifies his place in the international film community as a dynamic and evolving filmmaker whose storytelling continues to captivate audiences globally.
