LIMONE Wins Top Jury Prize at the 2025 Rome International Film Festival

Venice-set short film earns highest honor in Short Film Competition
LIMONE, the proof-of-concept turned short film written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Sohrab Mirmont, has been awarded the Top Jury Prize for Short Films at the 2025 Rome International Film Festival.

The film premiered to a sold-out cinema and received the festival’s highest honor for short films in competition.
Filmed entirely on location in Venice, Italy, LIMONE follows Marino, a weathered Venetian water-taxi captain, as he embarks on a quiet yet profound journey of redemption and self-discovery while navigating the city’s iconic canals. Rooted in European cinematic tradition, the film blends intimate character study with the poetic rhythm of Venice itself.
Following the screening, Mirmont appeared in person for a post-film Q&A, engaging with festival moderators and audience members about the film’s themes, production, and future. When asked what comes next, Mirmont shared, “More festivals—and hopefully you’ll be seeing the feature-length version of this story in 2026 or 2027.”

Mirmont is no stranger to the international festival circuit. He first gained recognition
with his short film The Beautiful Wind, which won Best Short Film at the New York International Film Festival in 2005. His feature thriller The Freemason earned him Best Director and Best Film honors at the Comic Con Film Festival.
Most recently, he produced the critically acclaimed Riddle of Fire, which premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival (Directors’ Fortnight) and went on to screen at Toronto International Film Festival, Sitges Film Festival, and numerous festivals worldwide.

With its Top Jury Prize win, LIMONE continues its festival run while serving as a proof-of-concept for an upcoming feature film currently in development.
